Harry Potter is a story about an orphaned wizard boy living with his cruel uncle, aunt, and cousin, the Dursleys. His parents, both wizards were killed by a powerful but evil wizard, Lord Voldemort. At the night of the murder, Voldemort attempted to kill Harry but his spell was reflected back to him causing him to loose his powers and turn into a spirit. Having survived the incident with only a lightning shaped scar on his forehead, Harry became very famous in the wizard world and has been dubbed as “the boy who lived”.
As he grew up, he was unaware of his magical powers. Nearing his eleventh birthday, letters from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were sent to Harry but were intercepted by his uncle and aunt. Finally, on his eleventh birthday, Hagrid, the gamekeeper of Hogwarts, came to inform him of his magical powers. This marked the n of Harry’s extraordinary life at Hogwarts.
Each book details a year of Harry’s life at Hogwarts where he learns to use his magic and more importantly, learn how to overcome many magical, social, and emotional obstacles as he struggles through his adolescence and Voldemort’s rise to power.

My child is too young for these books, but I have a nephew who loves them. From what I can understand (haven’t read them myself), the series is very imaginative. It really gets kids to read more & that can’t be bad. I would recommend these.
