I keep a schedule for my son, that’s how I regulate TV watching. Tried and tested:

    1. No TV if homework isn’t done. Homework is done between 4-6 PM. Homework is always checked.
    2. TV viewing is only after our 6 PM dinner and is until 8 PM. Bedtime is at 9 PM, strictly followed.
    3. On weekends, I’m pretty lenient with Saturdays. TV watching may be between 10am - 6pm. On Sundays, just between 10am - 3 pm

The schedule is useless if it is not implemented. So I make it a point to stick to it. :)

My son got addicted to watching this Barney show when he was 1.2 yr old. He would insist watching it day and night, all over again. Months later he was diagnosed with PDD/Autism. This Tv addiction might not be the culprit but it contributed a lot as to why he prefers watching the TV rather than interacting with the people around him.
Tv is bad especially for very young children. It is better to expose them early to reading books, flashcards rather than watching TV-be it educational or not.
TV shows are fast paced so they’ll grow up impatient dahil nasanay na ifefeed na lang info sa kanila
, while reading books will teach them to have patience.

I let my kids watch the Nick Jr. shows in the morning. After an hour and a half, I’ll bannish them outside to play, run around and mess up with their toys and stuff while I do my choirs. Before they sleep at night, they could either read(and/or destroy.. hahaha) books, play puzzles or other games, or watch a movie, and finally sometimes I just let them watch Asian Treasure or American Idol.

Since i’m working in a graveyard shift and my husband in morning shift we take turns in taking care of my daughter. Most of the time she’s just watching tv while i’m sleeping beside her. Since then, she would want the television open and tuned in to cartoons. When she wakes up in the morning or during her nap time, first thing in her mind is to watch cartoons.
It’s still best if we parents will teach them and let them have time to interact with other kids rather than spending their time watching tv even if it is educational.
